I really appreciated this piece, Seth. Your approach is a reminder to me that true courage doesn't always wear boxing gloves. Sometimes it shows up as a refusal to become what we hate.
While I understand where the anger comes from—history is heavy, and injustice leaves deep scars—I think it's important to pause before we endorse violence as a solution, even against those who stand for hateful ideologies. When we normalize striking others, we risk blurring the lines between justice and vengeance.
Thank you for urging us to hold the moral high ground—not out of weakness, but out of strength and clarity. That doesn't mean silence or inaction. It means speaking, voting, organizing, and resisting with resolve and integrity.
I am not a violent person. Ich sagt immer, “Always Punch Nazis”. My family was displaced by Nazis. Always Punch Nazis means confront them loudly. APN means do not yield to Naziism. APN means Standing In Opposition to White Supremacy. Those who violate Body Autonomy are no better than Nazis. Good Trouble instructs us to Stand Up and Speak Out. Isa instructs us to Love Our Neighbor. I Always Punch Nazis. 🏴☠️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️💜
This is a root of many of our problems: redefining terms that have hard and fast definitions. Punching always means physical violation of body autonomy. If those holding the higher moral ground had not violated body autonomy during the U.S. Civil War, slavery would have likely lasted much longer than it did.
I love you Seth but if get a chance to knock some sense into the mango Mussolini it might be more temptation than I can resist. Hope to see some of you in DC on June 14th, I’m flying from Atlanta with my wife and daughters for no kings day.
I don't like the violent rhetoric of punching Nazis. It definitely makes people against this administration and the GOP look dangerous, and like hypocrites. This administration and white nationalists are dangerous, and messaging should remind people that one group wants freedom for all, and another group wants to get their way with oppression and violence.
History begs to differ. When Nazis or other sick groups decided to take control, they smashed heads and forced their will on a population that they knew were too principled to fight back. It is our superior moral code that ironically allows evil to march unchallenged until it is almost too late. Passivity can frequently lead to green lighting the worst monsters. Had any of the world's worst offenders been "punched," how much better the world would likely be. That "higher ground" is often a position held by the most privileged.

We can be fierce without being cruel.

Grammar note: “Ich sagt immer” should be “Ich sage immer,” if you're going for German. ;)

Is it okay to sing about it though? 😇
